Handmade Coffee table painting - (New Iberia, LA for sale in Lafayette, Louisiana

$6,000

My friends and I had an apartment on Holden Street in Lafayette. Probably the most memorable, enlightening time of my life....
I had this bright idea to start painting on the coffee table one day. The concept was that everyone that came into the apartment would draw something on the table until all the spaces were filled in. I thought it would make a great conversation piece, and every conversation would fuel more artwork. I ended up drawing most of the stuff on it myself, but a lot of people did chip in. Only bad part is, the table wasn't mine to begin with. The owner and roomie was only mad for a few minutes before he drew some things himself. He let me take it when we moved and its been in storage.
It was a nice table with, might even be oak. I was an architecture student at the time and I was drawing on a fricken coffee table, I don't know -S- about wood compared to some I'm sure. I was still trying to figure out what architecture was, and this was an experiment with a community experience. Not all of it was good. I did have one of my ex-girlfriends friends draw a condom on it, but when I asked him what it was he was too coward to admit it, so he said he wasn't finished and he made it into a man's face, which its a good thing he did, because it also looked like the virgin mary for a minute.
The table developed into this one of a kind momento of a living experience. I had never considered it to be complete, which is why I'm asking 6,000 for it. Part of my life is definitely in this table, and I learned a lot about architecture at that time by not doing my actual homework.
In the center of the table, it reads "MANY WILL ENTER: FEW WILL WIN!!!!" which was something I wrote after a split second of hearing a commercial for some sweepstakes while I was drawing something else, so thats what I call it.
This is the first piece of artwork that I sell besides music. There are a lot of ugly things about what makes some works of art worth anything because they are about the human experience. This piece was only a translation of an experience that was close to me, but I think the painting itself represents a common thread in the coffee table experience and human interaction, as well as being nice to look at.
